Chamaerops humilis argentea
Dwarf silvery palmp
A European subspecies, often met in Tuscany (Italy), where very old palms are found.
It is undoubtedly one the hardiest Chamaerops: it has withstood temperatures down to -16°C (3°F)
Close to Chamaerops humilis cerifera, the palms of this gorgeous Chamaerops have a distinctive silvery white underside; like other Chamaerops, it grows in clumps of 2- to 3-m in diametre.
Plant it in full sun or keep it in a container. It is very tolerant of wind, sea spray, heat, drought and cold. However, it needs to be well-drained to prevent an excess of humidity.
Its seeds have a very characteristic shape: they look like olives.
